Canadian Military Journalism Course (10-16 May)
Here’s the application info for this year’s week-long Canadian Military Journalism Scholarship/Certificate Course (10-16 May). (It’s offered at no cost if you are one of eight students selected nationally. FYI, three MRU students have applied in the past three years, and all three were successful.)
It’s run every spring by the Centre for Military, Security and Strategic Studies at the University of Calgary under the direction of Bob Bergen, a former Calgary Herald reporter with conflict zone reporting experience. It includes classroom presentations as well as visits to Regular and Reserve army units in Calgary and CFB Wainwright. This year’s course includes an extended visit to the largest military field exercise in the country, Exercise Maple Resolve. Conducted in Wainwright, it involves several thousand soldiers, as well as hundreds of armoured vehicles and various types of aircraft.
A great opportunity to learn about the military and how to cover it.
Also an excellent chance to interact with like-minded student journalists from King’s, Ryerson, Carleton etc.
Application deadline: 29 March 2019
I’ve had some involvement with this course over the years, so please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
