Overall Purpose

The Community Relations Liaison (CRL) plays a key role to ensure new volunteer sources are developed to meet anticipated program demand. This person also serves as support in general marketing and communications for the organization.


Working directly with both the Resource Development and Program teams, the CRL is responsible for the following activities related to volunteer development, alumni engagement, and marketing:

  • Planning and development of volunteer recruitment and communications activities
  • Quality control of volunteer screening and communications
  • Stewardship and recognition
  • Evaluation and reporting
  • Coordination of marketing activities and communication pieces


  • Planning & Development
  • Conduct assessment of volunteer practices – recruitment, training retention and recognition
  • Keep current with research in the field of volunteer management
  • Develop and implement annual volunteer plan to secure new volunteer sources
  • Coordinate volunteer and alumni participation in programs and special events
  • Establish and maintain network links with corporate groups, non-profit associations and education groups to promote Junior Achievement of Southern Alberta (JASA)
  • Quality Control
  • Maintain database and tracking of corporate contact development efforts and results
  • Work with staff to develop guidelines and standards for effective volunteer management including recruitment, screening, training, retention and recognition
  • Support Program team and Regional staff as required
  • Stewardship and Recognition
  • Develop volunteer recognition plan within budget
  • Evaluation and Reporting
  • Ensure accurate and timely tracking and reporting of volunteer and marketing activities
  • Report on and recommend improvements of JASA volunteer management and marketing activities
  • Coordination of marketing activities and communication pieces
  • Assist with special events
  • Maximize social media opportunities to support organizational communications and community relations goals

Reporting Relationship

The CRL reports directly to the Director of Programs or any other program Manager as assigned by the Director

Required experience and knowledge

  • Pursuing post-secondary degree or diploma in business, volunteer management, education, career development or related field
  • Professional presentation skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Desirable experience and knowledge
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector
  • Experience with Raiser's Edge
  • Volunteer recruitment, or volunteer experience
