Canadian men's curling championship and the Continental Cup of curling

Thursday, 02 October 2014 09:56

Pinstripe Communications Inc. is looking for a student, or students, who would be interested in working on two short-term newspapers which chronicle the Canadian men's curling championship and the Continental Cup of curling, both in Calgary.

These are newspapers which cover the events with game stories and off-ice features.

Pinstripe Communications is looking for students who have an interest in sports, particularly curling, who might like to get some hands-on experience covering the events and working with professionals. These are real newspapers, with real deadlines.

The assignments would not be terribly time-consuming. Students would be handed an assignment, which could be anything from interviewing an ice-maker about ice conditions, to volunteers working the events. It could, on occasion, involve an interview with a curler.

Journalism students who worked with us in the past have arrived before noon for an assignment, and left after doing their interview and story.
Both events are at the Scotiabank Saddledome.

The Continental Cup runs Jan. 8-11.

The Canadian men's curling championship (Tim Hortons Brier), runs Feb. 28 to March 8. Students would be accredited for the event for the duration of the competition.
There is no budget for these events. Students get the experience and a byline.
